Quickie before I pop into the show than head for Utrecht. I enjoyed having a bit more of a relaxed day, particularly after the long day that was yesterday. For whatever reason yesterday I was particularly annoyed. A lot of things annoyed me more than they usually do. So, I'm glad I didn't pick up anything very fancy for dinner. Nothing that required lots of prep on my part.

Right, anyway, today was free from class and meant lounging around a bit. I probably should have done more work than I did (I reviewed some of my Intro to Medieval English stuff) but whatever. I'll shower and head off to Utrecht soon, to pick up a few things, and then meet up with Mark in Amsterdam. Hopefully I'll be able to get to Amsterdam, because the trains have been running very poorly lately. Lots of problems, particularly around Amsterdam (mainly due to a train derailment, I think). From Amsterdam, we head over to Apeldoorn to dine with E and T and probably play Munchkins (they bought the game as well as some expansions to it.) It's fun to hang out with them, so I'm looking forward to it. A night without any homework! I won't even have books looming near me, threatening me quietly with the work I'm not doing.

Monday will be a bit of a busy day, what with my Intro to Medieval English mid-term, and meeting up with some of the group to work on our presentation for History of Medieval Wales, and, of course, a normal class of Middle Welsh 2. I'll probably want to translate some more MW before then, so I'll probably have to do homework at some point this weekend, beyond just studying up for the mid-term.

Okay, that's all I've got at the moment, I hope everyone enjoys today and I'm off for the day!

Yes, clearly, I have not done my menu for this week. Urm, sorry. I haven't done grocery shopping yet either, as I'm busy with classes and an essay due Friday. I'll try to get stuff up, but at least y'all know I'm alive.

Hey everyone, sorry with the lack of updates. Introduction week was filled with busy-ness and really wore me out. (Getting mysteriously sick with some sort of head-cold did not help). I'll try and get a post up this weekend about the week and the awesomeness that I've witnessed thus far, but it's not happening today, as I'm just too exhausted.

I can say I'm really looking forward to starting my classes and hanging out with people.

Now, off to crash again!

I am changing my major from history to Celtic languages and culture, the course that I had first considered but dismissed as not having many job possibilities later in life. Yes, that was the only reason I dismissed it. I now heartily regret what I did, but greatly look forward to starting a new study that makes me squee!

Just thought people would like to know. :)

(Also, tonight we're having burritos! Yay!)

Well, we've been up to some things lately. More house hunting, as our previous hopeful may not be such a good choice. I have to narrow it down to a few that we think we'd actually like to see, and then we'll make calls and make appointments. Try to get them all done on the same day so that Mark doesn't have to waste vacation time. Still haven't heard from either the University or IB-Groep.. probably because they suck. :/ I'm hoping they send stuff soon to let me know about other stuff. Like, oh, if I'm actually allowed to attend University. That would be really nice to know.
*grump*
Otherwise, I don't know anymore. I thought I had more to say.. sorry.

And now.. Art! )

Class was a lot more interesting today. Bernadette finally taught again (it's been a long time since she taught on Friday) and she gave some fabulous news. Next Thursday and Friday we don't have class.

YES!

I like hearing that I don't have to go to class.

Beyond that, it was just a nice class. Even though I forgot a paper, clearly I had done it (I could still answer things when it came to my turn), and it feels nice when you're otherwise prepared. Also, got a compliment, as we're doing more practice on short answers and getting them to come out quickly and naturally (more Dutch sounding). Apparently, I was very good in my delivery of the lines. I like hearing that.

PS:For translation, this is a good site. It doesn't get everything, but it will give a pretty good idea of what's being said.

Yesterday the internet connection managed to last for almost the whole day. Let's see if it will last the whole day today.

I really don't want to go to class today. We have it with Bernadette, and I'm not that fond of her really. Ah well, it's only for a few hours. I'll be out at 14.30.

Still don't want to deal with other people. Feeling quite anti-social. I will take refuge in the fact that it is almost weekend. I like the weekend, because sometimes it feels extra long just for me. Mostly because my Friday class ends at 12.20 and my Monday class starts at 12.50.

Classes were canceled, yet again. Bernadette (one of my teachers) is still sick. I hope she gets better soon, not that we'll see her this week otherwise. Tomorrow I have class with Lucienne, and then Wednesday, Thursday and Friday is testing. Yup, it's that time again folks. Let's see how much Dutch you can spew out. Woo. I'm taking level 3.2 which is a jump up from 1.4, which was the last test I took. Apparently, Bernadette did not think I could handle 3.4 just yet.. but nearly. After 3.4, they stop teaching you.

Saturday was Utrecht day. I'm vaguely frustrated, as they may require me to take a State Exam (no, they don't know what level, or at least, the person I asked didn't know what level), and State Exams.. if based off of what I've seen of them, are really in no way preparatory for University. Just.. loads of frustration with that, and that the woman could not be more patient for me to try and answer her in Dutch.

Bitch,
I've just sat through 3 hours of you people talking, and I understood you. Yes, I even understood the Political History professor and his sample lecture. I think I could have responded, but you just can't wait for a second or so. Also, don't lecture my boyfriend about what we do. Thanks. I really enjoyed the way you started talking over me to him, because, apparently, I'm dumb. Much love to you too.

So, yeah, History sounds interesting, and I really do want to study it, but.. damn.. people like that are annoying and I don't want to deal with them. I'd like to see that bitch try and do the same in English to me. How much would she like to have been cut off like that? Yeah, not much I'm betting.

Urm, anyway, after that.. and deciding, yes, I think I would like to do History (even with the loads of papers and stuff), we had lunch, and then we headed back for Celtic language and culture. Man, that was so much cooler than the History thing. SO MUCH. I walked out of that wishing it wasn't such a useless degree, because that sounded so much more fun. Admittedly, if the History department had actually done something from one of the areas that Utrecht is supposedly known for I think it would have been a lot more interesting than a long (loooong) lecture about Italian Fascism and Mussolini.
Anyway (yes, I use this word a lot), off that tangent, Celtic was tiny, compared to the jam-packed History. It sounded so much more interesting (especially, of course, Gesch. Middeleeuws Wales, Gesch. Middeleeuws Ierland, Middeleeuwse Welshe lit., Middeleeuwse Ierse lit.; really want to go into those classes. Damn.) It would require learning Welsh and Gaelic.. on top of, of course, continuing learning Dutch. However, much of Celtic is apparently in English, which is handy and you can write the papers in English. Plus!

So, other than student adviser person up there, I got quite excited about doing it. Admittedly, right now, I'm just kind of tired of doing anything. Sometimes it just doesn't feel like it all pays off in terms of anything. Bah. I just feel like curling up under the blankets for a good long time.

Otherwise, really, I'm doing well. At least, that's the general consensus of things here.. as far as my head will tell me. Dealing with a bit of a mood swing thing, thanks to Monthly Flow, which makes it hard to decipher whether I'm legitimately upset over something or if it's just hormones.

I've had some bad dreams lately, which have been rather unnerving.
Dreams, because they tend to be rather boring.. )

Well, it's finally happened. I always wondered what I would have to do if a teacher was sick when we arrived at school..

It seems that a few teachers are sick today, so we couldn't just do computer exercises all day, so when we were asked what we would rather do, we all said (nearly in unison) to go home! So, yup, I get up (reasonably) early, bike out, get there early, sit for about 20 minutes, then bike back.
Not too bad, though I still feel bad for Mark (who is using public transport while his car is being poked and prodded.. he has to get up at 6am just so that he can get on public transport in time to get to work at 9am.

At any rate, I was biking back and I was on.. uhm.. a main road nearby the apartment when a guy drove past with a trailer. He hit a bump just right (or wrong, depending on your view I suppose) and a bit of metal something popped out of the trailer on to the road, just a little bit in front of me (well, and to the side). I biked up to it, watched one car drive right over it (I heard a small thunk, I hope that car is alright.. but it seemed to mostly clear it) and then I raced out in the road while no cars were coming to grab it. Up ahead, the guy was pulling over and heading back. He was really grateful. I think he was also German, as he called me Fraulein, and used mixed Dutch. (Een mooie dag voor een mooie Fraulein!) At any rate, it was very pleasant to be so thoroughly thanked for what I think anyone should have done.
Anyway, I hope he has a pleasant day further.. I know I'll enjoy my extra day off!

Another Day..

Another zombie.

Once again, reasonably slow and boring. I've been suffering from a headache all day, and for awhile it was feeling better, but it's slowly trying to creep back in. Stupid headache. Thursday we have a verb test, next Monday we have a test on dividable verbs. Woo. At least tomorrow I don't have class. Yay!
I've emailed Utrecht to try to get a Student Day thing, and hopefully I should be signed up for the May 1st Student Day. Also planning on attending the Voorlichtingsdag on March 18th. Our shower is still not completely together, but Mark will get that fixed tonight (another hopefully).
Something else I've never mentioned is my laptop (Hermes) seems to have died in some form or fashion. We're not sure if it's just the power stuff, or if it shorted, or if Hermes is really dead. In any case, it means Mark and I are stuck sharing his computer. Luckily, we can handle this.. but Mark is planning on getting me my own desktop computer soon, so that we can stop sharing. Which is good, because I don't like using his tablet, and I'm not plugging mine into his computer, so I haven't been doing any computer art, which means very little art will be seen by anyone.. because I'm a lazy bum when it comes to scanning things in. (Believe me, I doodle a lot in class, y'all probably will never see them though.)

Now for memes )
