So, things have been progressing with Zoë. She's not the most sociable rat, but she's certainly loads better than she was! (She'll actually come out of the cage, all on her own!) And next week we pick up our two new girls. We have already met them, and they are incredibly social, human-oriented rats. I'll include pictures of them below, though I didn't take them, they were taken by the people who run Rattery Havyn. I only wish my pictures were so nice... *sigh*

If you want to know more about the nest (and can read Dutch), go to this link. Even if you can't read Dutch, there are some cute pictures on the whole website. These people breed incredibly human friendly, and healthy rats. We visited them, played with the available girls of the nest, as well as the mother. Katara, mama, is a sweetheart, and her nest seems to be taking after her very strongly.

And I'm doing this sort of as a year in review for our photos. We don't have that many, and some may be repeats that I've already posted before. Too bad!

So, today we brought the two girls together in one cage. We did a very thorough cleaning and made sure everything was set so that there would, hopefully, be a minimum amount of fighting. It seems to be going just fine so far. Some dominance play, but nothing very serious that would make me worry. And we have certainly seen worse!

Anyway, on with the pictures!

Ok, she's still flighty, but I did manage to catch a few shots of her. She's chatty, but still tends to hide when I approach the cage. She is calming down however, proof already from the fact that she leaves the corner of the cage and explores, even when there is a person in the room. I think when she gets introduced to Kaylee and sees how Kaylee interacts with us, she'll calm down even more.

But, anyway, here's some.. not so fantastic shots of our new girl, Zoë!

I am alive.

tricster: (Dear Diary)
So, it has been awhile since I've updated. In fact, I haven't updated since September. Sorry about that.

The trip to London was great, even though I wasn't at full health. It meant I couldn't talk as much as I would have liked with people. After a certain amount of speaking, I just couldn't any more, as my throat would force me to stop. It also meant we didn't get to see as much as we had liked. I just didn't have the energy. We did, however, get to see the British Museum and the Tower of London, which were my two big 'want-to-see's. (Want pictures? Check this out!, includes some Celtic stuff, including a stone with ogam!)

After London, I had a Dr.'s appointment with a throat specialist, who confirmed what my GP said. Tonsils are coming out! Surgery has been scheduled for December 15, and recovery will take place during the holidays. So far, all things are a go. I had a brief appointment with my anaesthesiologist to make sure I would check out for being put under. He saw no problems. (I will add, so far my doctors have all been very friendly and informative. Quite nice.)

Then, of course, I was swamped with school stuff. I still have school stuff to do, but I'm already looking forward to the next quarter, which might, hopefully, be easier? We'll see.

This is always the way of it. I'll think of awesome things to post about, but when I actually go to post, all my ideas are gone.

Well, I have of course been worried and excited about going back to classes and getting involved in all sorts of activities. I'm really looking forward to getting back to steady choir rehearsals.

Also, we had been having some problems with our sewer connection. So, what connects us (and one of our neighbours) to the common sewer was, uhm.. broken somewhat. It was also quite old. So this weekend we* dug our pipe and the neighbours' pipe up and replaced it all. And since we had to pull up so many bricks, and E, Mark's brother, had extra (nicer) tiles, we're redoing our garden. Right now, it's still.. very much not done.

To prepare it for being completely redone, plants are being ripped up. We have a butt-load of ivy that has grown everywhere. Today, I tackled some of it until my shears broke.** Anyway, I have some pictures below the cut to show you what's going on in our back garden.

**Yes, the ivy broke my shears. Fucking ivy.

KeltFest 2009

So, this was the first year Mark and I went to KeltFest! It was smaller than Elf Fantasy Fair, and I enjoyed it quite a lot. We remembered to bring the camera, but I'm afraid I only got about four pictures.

Anyway, we got there pretty early in the day, and enjoyed some of the music. Then we wandered amongst the stalls. I have to say, we mainly sat and watched the Highland Games. This is definitely going to go on to our list next year.

First, some pictures from Easter Monday a week or so ago. On Easter Monday, Mark, his family and I went to Burger's Zoo in Arnhem. It was gorgeous weather and we enjoyed ourselves, though no one brought a camera, so all the pics in my LJ entry today is from my cellphone. (Yes, we finally managed to figure a way to get my pictures off my camera, via bluetooth.)

Now we have one picture and one video from the Elf Fantasy Fair. There were loads of awesome costumes, but this is the only one I really tried to get a shot of. Also, a poor quality phone camera shot of the Nazgûl riding by.

So, I only have one class next week, unfortunately it is the class at 9:00, but I'll manage somehow. Tuesday night Mark and I will be going to see X-men Origins: Wolverine in Alphen a/d Rijn.

Saturday, we went to the Elf Fantasy Fair. I have one or two pictures on my phone and a video. I'll see what I can do about getting them off and posting them.

Also, on Thursday, my HD finally kicked it. So we ordered me a new (larger) one, and I finally made the big step of switching completely to Linux. I'm really enjoying it thus far; both the larger HD and Linux. I was still very happy to recover the notes I had written only a day or so before.

Today, Mark and I finished setting up the two games I really wanted on Metis (Perfect World and Guild Wars) and then we played some. I grabbed some screen shots, they're after the cut.

Life so far

Feb. 9th, 2009 01:36 pm
tricster: (dragons ate my homework)
Currently Reading:

This is me, post-shower, dressed for class.

I have a much easier schedule this time around.

Monday: 15:15-17:00 Modern Welsh
Tuesday: 15:15-17:00 Modern Welsh
Wednesday: Nothing
Thursday: 17:15-18:00 Old Irish 3
Friday: 13:15-17:00 Old Norse

So far, I'm really enjoying all my classes this quarter. I'm also enjoying having the time to actually do things like homework and relax.

Otherwise, Mark and I have started going to a few lectures given in the evenings (for free!) in Utrecht, and at the end of May we'll be going to KeltFest and beginning of August we'll go to CastleFest. Slowly, we're doing a bit more than just collapsing at the end of each day and every weekend.

The rats are doing well, they do the normal amount of wrestling, but otherwise love curling up together. It's adorable. We should have some pictures somewhere of the four of them, but I'm not sure. I'll check after class and post them if they actually exist.
