So, school is about to start. Never mind that apparently Reizen in de Middeleeuwen (travelling in the middle ages) can't decide when and where it will actually be. I also already have homework. Yay </sarcasm>

Another, not so drastic, change is the shift over to dreamwidth

Mark is going off to Germany this Sunday to do some work elsewhere. Which means I'll be all alone. I'm sure I'll be able to manage.

RE: the rats?
Zoë is still insane, sweet and not too aggressive or anything, but still rather shy. Kaylee continues to be adorable and sweet.

Mark has finally fixed the drain in the bathroom. You never realize how much you use a sink until you can't use it any more.

I am really going to try to keep this more updated. Perhaps with school work, or at least my rants/lectures on what I'm learning? We'll see.

Ok, she's still flighty, but I did manage to catch a few shots of her. She's chatty, but still tends to hide when I approach the cage. She is calming down however, proof already from the fact that she leaves the corner of the cage and explores, even when there is a person in the room. I think when she gets introduced to Kaylee and sees how Kaylee interacts with us, she'll calm down even more.

But, anyway, here's some.. not so fantastic shots of our new girl, Zoë!

Yesterday morning, we finally put Inara to sleep. When we returned home from vacation, she had a lump on her neck. I took her to the vet, fearing that it was a tumor. The vet thought it might be as well, but hoped that it was an infection, and so (since there is little that can be done for tumors there) we started her on antibiotics. They didn't help, and she lost quite a bit of weight within that week.

After the antibiotics we tried an experimental shot. It was meant to at least reduce the swelling around the tumor and make it easier for her to breathe, as the tumor had gotten larger by this point, and was seriously effecting her breathing. The shot worked for a few days, but then her condition only worsened. In the two weeks that we had been treating her, trying to get her to eat and make her comfortable, she had lost about 1/3 of her weight. And so, we made the decision to put her to sleep. It was rather that than let her starve to death, as she seemed to be doing.

On the same day, we had an appointment at a rat shelter, to see if we could find a new rat to be a companion for Kaylee. I am pleased to state that we found one, though she is at the moment incredibly shy, and scared. Her name is (now) Zoë¹, continuing the firefly theme. She's about a year old, black hooded female. Someone had put her and two other little females in a travel cage, and tossed them over a fence in to a school yard.

So far, she hasn't been incredibly social since getting her home, but that is only to be expected. She just needs some time to calm down and adjust to her new surroundings. I'll try to get pictures after she's settled a bit more. Mostly at the moment she hides in the litter pan, but when things are reasonably quiet she comes out and explores and sniffs the rest of her cage.

Today, my friend, [livejournal.com profile] lladrones will be coming over to watch movies. I just have to finish cleaning up a little bit, and do the groceries I should have done yesterday...

¹It was Lizzie, but I don't think she'll mind the name change so much.

So, I continue to be really horrible at this. I probably won't be posting much in July, as I'll be in the USA anyway. But I have a few random photos to post.
photos under here )

So, this is it.. the first full week of July, and next Monday I'm heading off. Just a tad bit stressed, I have to say. I have to get laundry done, do the packing, clean up the house (hopefully), pack up the rats, finishing buying some gifts. I also want to pick out what movies and music I want on my phone for the very long trip. (Have I mentioned the insanely long layover in Boston? *sigh* I hope we can find something fun to do.. maybe Aquarium?)

Agh, I'm opening things up for questions. Got any questions? Ask 'em here and I'll see if I can answer them!

Well, we're on to the last quarter of the year. Things are moving apace, and I must admit that I have been very slack with updating, despite having a few things worth posting about. Don't ask me all what I was going to post, I don't remember most of it.

Saturday, however, we did go to the Elf Fantasy Fair, which was enjoyable until the end, when we got a no-show fire ring and an incredibly late final horse show and it was not that awesome for the lateness. (Which reminds me I still need to complain to them about that.) I have some video, and Mark has some pictures. Before I post the video anywhere, though, it needs some editing. I don't know what Mark will be doing with the photos.

Next up on the events list for the two of us is Keltfest, 15th of May. Between now and then, I have a few things, like the rehearsal weekend for Medusa. Hopefully I'll also catch a few films, of course I want to see Iron Man 2. Otherwise I hope to also catch Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and, of course, A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Had a small scare from the Immigration department here, due to a miscommunication between them and the people in Gouda. They claimed not to have gotten some paperwork, but Gouda fixed it. So that probably took a good ten years off my life, but now it is over.

Oh! Other big news! I have a new phone! I have yet to name it, but it is the HTC Hero. Any tips for what to name it? Should I continue with the theme we've got going of greek names. We've got Metis and Mnemosyne. Or should I go with another geeky name?

Huh, gosh, I have no idea what else I was going to say. I should really update this more often, it makes it easier when I update when I think about what I want to write, instead of weeks later.

Honestly, I'm always a little mixed about Valentine's Day. It's nice to have a day I can designate as a 'date night' for Mark and I. This is particularly nice this year, as I have more nights where I have to be out of the house and away from Mark. I don't hold that anyone else should do this, nor should anyone be made to feel unhappy because they don't currently have a partner. After all, we should not be defined by whether or not we have a partner.

Anyway, this year, still have no idea what we're doing. Maybe a film and dinner? I don't know. It's not hugely important on my list of holidays, I will say that much.

But, generally, I think about my brother around V-Day. His birthday was the 15th, and so it kind of goes hand in hand with V-Day.

So, today I started my new classes for the 3rd quarter.

For those not in the know here is my 3rd quarter class schedule. )

ATW is an unfortunate re-take, as I didn’t pass it my first year and decided to move it to my 3rd year. They’ve changed some things, so we’ll see if it’s any good. I just wish they had also changed the time.

And.. directly after it is Latin. Latin looks like it will be quite interesting. I love the first dive in to a language, when everything is new, and shiney, and interesting. Not that I don’t like languages later, but it’s always a bit extra nice when you’re first diving in.

I am still amazed sometimes, when I sit in a class learning some new (to me) language. Generally, they teach as much in Dutch as they can (Latin will be taught totally in Dutch, my other language classes tended to be mixed.) So, I’ll be sitting there, learning a new language, in a language I only started learning 6 years ago. That still just makes everything so weird. Here I am, immigrant from the US, English-speaker, learning Latin in Dutch.

Anyway, yes, then Latin. The teacher seems to be quite interesting indeed. Apparently I was mentioned to him on the train by [livejournal.com profile] lladrones, which is a surprise. What did you say about me? Hopefully all good things.

Tonight I have a meeting for Medusa. I am tired, my head won’t stop hurting and I had forgotten to bring any paracetomal with me. I still have to go out and pick up my BC from the pharmacy, but I don’t want to go out until I absolutely have to. Which, considering I need my BC, and I need to get to Utrecht before 19:00 so I can also grab a bite to eat, will probably mean I have to head off soon.

I do plan on taking public transport tonight, hopefully Mark will be willing to pick me up, otherwise.. I don’t know, public transport or walking home afterwards.

I want to get some of my Latin homework and such done already, so I guess this is it for now.

Something other than a menu plan for a change.

So, next week starts my third quarter. I'm a little tired of classes, but hopefully I'll pep up again when I start some new ones (this coming quarter? Algemene Taal Wetenschap general language science and Latin 1)

What's bigger news is that my parents have bought Mark and I tickets to fly to the USA. The dates are set, we leave on the 12th of July and arrive back in the Netherlands on the 3rd of August. Now, first of all, it is amazing that my parents have done this for us. Second of all, we will be dependant on either my parents, or at least their willingness to part with a car for our transport.

My father has asked that those who want to see us, please come visit us at their place. There are sleeping spots there, just in case. I don't know yet what the general schedule is for our visit, but as I learn more, I will report it here.

Otherwise, I haven't been up to much. Lots of school, living a life. You know, the normal busy stuff.

I'll post the response to that meme thing soon. Anyone have any questions, do let me know!

Menus got shifted around, as is usual, it seems. But that's alright. Overall this week was lacking something. I don't know which would be the biggest star, but the best dishes this week were the stew and the curry. Everything else was either kind of bland or down right unwanted.

The Round-up )

I'm not done filling stuff in, so I welcome suggestions. I'd prefer not to have to buy too much meat. I have beef sausages, ground beef and 2 bags of kippenbouten/chicken leg quarters (one of which is in use with my plan for Tuesday). Vegetarian is also, of course, entirely welcome. I'm not a fan of mushrooms, though.

I'll edit this when I figure stuff out.
